1982 Year 6

President: Thomas Cacciatore
The Bel Air Hotel was the venue for the installation ball. Los Angeles Dodgers Manager Tommy Lasorda attracted an overflow crowd. Speakers at other meetings included Lieutenant Gov. Mike Curb, U.S. Attorney Steven Trott of the Central District of California, and City Attorney Ira Reiner. Two annual events began: Marco Polo Night, held in conjunction with the Chinese American Lawyers (now with the added participation of the Japanese American bar), and a joint meeting with the Irish American Bar Assn. (now known as "Gaelic and Garlic Night").

1983 Year 7

President: Bruce Sottile
Chief Justice Rose Bird was the year's installing officer. The president, Bruce Sottile, did not complete his one-year term. In September, he and IALA member Joe Riggio were appointed to the bench, Sottile to the Superior Court and Riggio to the Los Angeles Municipal Court. President-Elect Larry Crispo filled out Sottile's term. Speakers included County Supervisor Mike Antonovich, District Attorney Robert Philibosian, and Los Angeles Times sports columnist Jim Murray. The Alfred Peracca Scholarship was established in the memory of the retired Superior Court judge.

1984 Year 8

President: Lawrence Crispo
The Bonaventure Hotel was the site of the installation ball. IALA logo cuff links were presented to the association's three life members, August Carloni, Paul Caruso, and George West Sr. Among the speakers were U.S. Attorney Robert Bonner of the Central District of California, California Supreme Court Justice Armand Arabian, and Los Angeles Police Chief Daryl Gates. At a joint meeting with the Langston Bar Assn., Superior Court Judge Billy G. Mills spoke. Marco Polo Night was enlivened by the singing of IALA President Larry Crispo.

1985 Year 9

President: Phil Bartenetti
The IALA returned to the Friar's Club for its installation ball. Speakers included legal writer Bernard Witkin, Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Arthur Alarcon, state Sen. William Campbell, and Los Angeles City Attorney James Hahn. Mayor Tom Bradley was on hand at Marco Polo Night.

1986 Year 10

President: William Tortu
California Supreme Court Justice Edward Panelli served the first of several stints as installing officer. Speakers included retired California Supreme Court Justice Otto Kaus and Los Angeles City Councilman Zev Yaroslavsky.
